1. Not the standard build
Due to specific firmware / ASUS h/ware set up the devices have to be built using the existing version of Win11 Pro Edu. If you plug in a memory stick before it completes the Win 11 OOBE and installation, it will disable visibility of any storage device (inc. its SSD!) - which will then require ASUS Cloud restore via Bios to get it visible again.
2. Win 11 Build process
Power on device
Go through Win OOBE basics ( keyboard layout, language etc..)
Name Device - select Skip
Set up Work or School
Choose Sign in options at MS sign in prompt
Select Domain Join
Create Local account - this is only required for initial login and this account is to be removed later on
Name - admin
Password - admin
Security Questions and answers x 3 ( Keep this consistent just in case - but this account is being removed) For example I selected: name of first pet - dog, City born - Truro, Parents first met - Truro.
Skip all ASUS prompts ( you do not need to register etc..)
Windows 11 should start setting up- You can either wait for updates or Skip this to start enrolment.
Once taken to desktop you can now plug in Build memory stick to start Autopilot enrolment
Open Command prompt as Administrator
Change directory to memory stick ( i.e D: )
Run autopilot.bat - remove the stick (If for SPT, you can run the apSD.bat and skip section 3)
3. M365 admin portal
Admin in as M365 Admin
Go to Devices
Device onboarding - Enrollment
Scroll down to windows Autopilot and choose Devices
Choose import - select AutoPilotDevices.csv and import
4. Manually join device to School or Work
On the device Go to settings - Accounts
Select Access School or Work - Connect
Choose Join This Device to Microsoft Entra ID
Pop in The Admin details and MFA
Confirm the Domain it is connecting
Once complete Sign out of the local account or restart
5. Updates and clean up
Login as M365 admin
Wait for account set up to complete - It might fail so will require a hard reset - hold power button on side until power indicator flashes red and release
Log back in
Run Windows updates
Check account Sync - Settings - Accounts - Access School or Network - Select connected to "Domainname"- Info - scroll down to Sync button ( might need to reauthenticate if it has failed)
Remove all ASUS software in Add remove programmes ( should only be 2)
Allow time for Company portal and apps to deploy as standard etc..
Remove the local admin account - Settings - Account - Your accounts - select Admin and remove - Don't save any data
If anything goes wrong or install does not complete you can go into Bios and select F6 - ASUS Cloud recovery to redownload the image.
Do not put in memory stick until you get to the Windows Desktop after logging in locally for the first time!!!!
